Staff update: Dane Romero new Army slotbacks coach

Army football has completed its coaching staff by adding an experienced assistant.

Army announced the hiring of Dane Romero as the team’s slotbacks coach with the Black Knights moving back to an under-center option.

Romero spent the last nine seasons coaching at his alma mater Wofford. He’s coached running backs his first seven years at Wofford before moving to offensive line and tight ends in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Romero was Wofford’s co-offensive coordinator in 2022.

The Army coaching staff opening was created when former offensive coordinator Drew Thatcher left the program in February.

Romero, who was inducted into the Wofford College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014, rushed for 1,078 yards and 23 touchdowns his senior season in 2008.
