There are a plethora of reasons why Marquel Broughton was named captain for the second year in the upcoming 2021 Army football season.
Broughton leads by example and rarely comes off the field. The senior safety took 691 snaps last season, the most by any returning Black Knights’ player. Broughton played in 93.2 percent of Army’s defensive snaps in 2021.
Army graduated four players who saw action in 600 or more plays – safety Cedrick Cunningham (702), Arik Smith (701), apache Malkelm Morrison (637) and nose tackle Nolan Cockrill (606).
Broughton is one of three returning players that took more than 600 snaps in 2021 joining all-American linebacker Andre Carter (630) and cornerback Jabari Moore (613).
