Recruiting: Cole Norred’s Army offer was worth wait, Ga. OL commits

Cole Norred was waiting for one FBS team to make him an offer.

And, when that team – Army – offered the Carrollton (Ga.) offensive lineman, Norred didn’t take much time to give the Black Knights his verbal commitment.

Norred received his initial call from offensive line coach Mike Viti June 20. Wide receivers coach Aaron Smith called with an offer June 23. Norred joined the Black Knights’ 2025 class with a call to Viti June 25.

“Being able to play high-level football and serve our country is a win-win situation for me,” Norred said. “I have wanted to serve our great nation for a while so when this opportunity was given, it was too good to pass up. The brotherhood at Army is unlike any other. So, the opportunity to join is a blessing.”

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound senior was one of many Army recruits to reveal their decision on the Fourth of July.

“Announcing my commitment on the Fourth of July to Army West Point is the coolest thing ever,” Norred said. “It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to commit on one of the greatest days in America’s history.”

Norred’s desire to serve come from his family’s military history. His grandfather served in the Vietnam War as a member of the Navy.

“Serving has always been something I thought about,” Norred said.

Army is recruiting Norred as interior offensive lineman with a focus on center. Norred has started games at guard and tackle and seen action at center for Carrollton.

Norred will get his first look at West Point during a visit later this month.

For now, Norred’s message to Black Knight Nation is “they are getting someone who is going to go all out in everything I do. God Bless America.”
