Notebook: Buchanan, Carter selected to Shrine Bowl 1000

Andre Carter has received plenty of preseason hype before Army takes the field this summer.

It was time for senior fullback Jakobi Buchanan to share in the recognition with his all-American teammate Wednesday. Buchanan and Carter were named to East-West Shrine Bowl 1000, a list of potential players to participate in the annual senior showcase game.

Buchanan has rushed for 1,066 yards and 18 touchdowns entering his final season at West Point.

Carter, a third-team Associated Press all-American as a junior, recorded an academy-record 15.5 sacks, the second-most in the country, in 2021. Athlon Sports and Phil Steele have named Carter to their preseason all-American teams.

Air Force had two players make the Shrine Bowl 1000 – fullback Brad Roberts and tight end Kyle Patterson. Navy linebacker John Marshall made the list.
