Direct or Army Prep: 2024 commit Lincoln Dunn taking Mormon mission before West Point

Lincoln Dunn capped his high school sports career with a spring track season that further caught the attention of Army football coaches.

Dunn set a school record, clocking in at 10.36 seconds in the 100-meter run. Dunn’s time was tied for the ninth-fastest time in the country this spring as of early June. The Melissa (Texas) senior captured the district and regional titles in the 100 and finished sixth at the state championship.

Army coaches and fans will have to wait for Dunn’s talents to arrive at West Point. Dunn, a Mormon and member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, is taking a two-year mission to Hamburg, Germany before going directly to the academy.

“Religion is super important to me,” said Dunn said. “I’ve grown up going to church every single Sunday so it’s always been a huge part of my life.”

Dunn, who caught 67 passes for 843 yards and 11 touchdowns while playing in only three full games due to Melissa’s success, said the decision was made with a lot of thought.

“It actually was a difficult decision,” Dunn said. “It’s hard because I’ve worked really hard to get to the point I’m at but then have to delay it for two years.”

Dunn, who will essentially now be member of Army’s 2026 recruiting class, was also offered by Air Force. He said that Army coaches would have liked him to come directly to West Point and then take his mission but they understood Dunn’s decision.

Below is an updated list of the Army’s 2024 recruiting class and if they are headed directly to West Point or attending Army Prep. 2024 commits if you’re on our unconfirmed list, please let us know where you are headed by message us on Twitter/X @salinterdonato
