Army headed to NCAA Hattiesburg regional

Army baseball will open NCAA regional play against host Southern Mississippi Friday at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The Black Knights (31-23) are joined by six-time national champion LSU and Atlantic Sun champion Kennesaw State in the regional.

Army, which won its fourth straight Patriot League title last week, is headed to its 10th NCAA regional and plays the 11th seed in Southern Miss (43-16).

The Black Knights are led by sophomore outfielder Sam Ruta (.385. 6 HR, 35 RBI), junior first baseman Ross Friedrick (.346, 6 HR, 49 RBI), junior shortstop Kevin Dubrule (.329, 46 RBI) and Patriot League pitcher of the year Connelly Early (7-3, 3.39 ERA, 80 K).
