Luke McCurdy didn’t waste much time in responding when Army football coaches initially reached out.
As fast as McCurdy could, the Park City (Utah) offensive lineman answered text messages. Then, a call came from Army offensive line coach Saga Tuitele in February.
Tuitele extended McCurdy his first Division I-A offer and said, “this is what happens when you answer quickly and are top of things.” McCurdy visited Army in late June.
This time, it was McCurdy making the call to Tuitele Sunday. McCurdy joined Army’s 2022 class, giving Tuitele his verbal commitment.
“West Point offers many things that normal colleges can’t,” McCurdy said. “The ability to serve your country in a very impactful manner being one of them. The deciding factor was probably the mixture of amazing academics and rich history and traditions in the program.”
McCurdy is Army’s first Utah 2022 commit. Navy and Nevada also offered McCurdy. He was also considering Fordham and Lehigh. McCurdy has played every offensive line position in his two years as a starter and blocked against some of Utah’s top Division I recruits including Oregon commit Ben Roberts.
“My main position on the line is wherever I am needed,” McCurdy said. “I believe I am being recruited to play center or tackle but I believe it’ll come down to where I fit best when I’m there.”
McCurdy can’t wait to play and block in Army’s option.
“I absolutely love the MOB (Army’s Malicious Offensive Line Brotherhood) philosophy and the run offense,” McCurdy said. “I think Army has a strong program that is only going to get better, I not only want to witness it, but I also want to be apart of it. A run game that scares teams, I would love to be a part of that.”
