Recruiting: Georgia LB Amir Robinson picks Army

Amir Robinson remembers when it all clicked for him and football.

Robinson was eight years old, sitting in his coach’s house, watching the Georgia Bulldogs. He started to understand the game on a deeper level, Robinson says.

“I knew after feeling the energy from a college game through the television that I wanted to be on that screen playing for my team,” Robinson said.

Robinson will get that opportunity to make his dreams come true. And, the Atlanta (Ga.) linebacker’s team will be Army. Robinson committed to the Black Knights and coach Jeff Monken during dinner on the second day (June 24) on a weekend visit.

“What sealed the deal for me were the players and the community,” Robinson said. “They don’t wear brotherhood on their backs for no reason. It really felt as though everyone were brothers. They were giving me the raw truth behind their experiences there. The benefits and life lessons instilled in each and every player is what I feel like is what I need in life.”

Robinson’s Army recruiting started earlier this year with a call from inside linebackers coach Justin “Juice” Weaver. After a good conversation, Robinson was offered by Weaver in March. Appalachian State, Liberty, Akron and Eastern Michigan also offered Robinson.

Army’s brotherhood stood out to Robinson during a team workout that he watched on his visit. Robinson also plays wide receiver and has taken snaps out of a wildcat formation for BEST. Robinson said his commitment and visit was “one of the best experiences I’ve had if not the best.”
