Saturday’s clash of two of the country’s most storied program is reunion for Army senior wide receiver Kjetil Cline and Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson.
Search the 2015 IMG Academy football team and you will find photos of Cline and Patterson together during their undefeated run.
“We had your typical quarterback-receiver relationship,” said Cline, who hopes to catch up with Patterson at the end of today’s game. “We’d go out on weekends and throw the ball. We were friends at IMG. We haven’t stayed in contact as much when we separated off to college.
“He’s a great quarterback. He was a pure leader at IMG. I know he’s a leader at Michigan. I know they have a great team and we are going to have to play our best.”
Both Michigan and Army may use multiple quarterbacks today. Dylan McCaffrey played with Patterson last week in its 40-21 win over Middle Tennessee State last week and rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Jabari Laws, Army’s second-string quarterback, lined up as a fullback in the Black Knights’ opener against Rice, and had a 3-yard carry on his only snap.
Army senior fullback Connor Slomka, who missed the opener with a pulled leg muscle, took first-team reps in warmups and is expected to make his season debut today.
The Black Knights are dressing three quarterbacks – starter Kelvin Hopkins, Laws and junior Christian Anderson.
