Recruiting: Montana OL Dalton Noble commits to Army

Dalton Noble always wanted to follow the path of his cousins and play college football.’

What path Noble would chose was in question. Army offered Noble in April. The Jefferson High offensive lineman had offers from in-state Montana and Montana State as well as Idaho, Columbia and Lehigh.

Army co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Matt Drinkall’s trip to Big Sky Country would play a role in Noble’s final decision. Drinkall provided enough information on the academy and the football program that Noble on his father visited West Point in late July.

“I think you always want to go where you wanted and (coach) Drinkall coming out here really showed that,” said Noble, whose cousins played for Montana State and Montana Western.

A week ago, Noble made the call and committed to the Black Knights. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Noble is also an all-conference basketball player, setting a school record with eight blocks in a game and 65 blocks in a season his junior year. Noble earned all-state track honors as a shot put champion with a throw of 50 feet, 11 inches.

“I talked to my parents and coaches quite a bit, talked to coach Drinkall and coach (Jeff) Monken and couldn’t turn down the opportunity to play for Army and get a West Point degree,” Noble said.

Army is starting a bit of a recruiting “pipeline” to Montana. Noble is the second Montana commit over the last three years for the Black Knights. Freshman running back Jake Rendina, who played at Army Prep last year, starred at Glacier High School.

“I’m glad I have the opportunity to play for Army and be able to serve my country at the same time,” Noble said.
