Recruiting: Maryland DE Yasir Supreme picks Army

Sports have always been a major part of Yasir Supreme’s life.

Supreme has played football and basketball since he was five years old. He played in the Elite Youth Basketball League three years for Team Melo and four years of high school basketball.

But, Supreme will continue his college athletic career on the gridiron. The Gilman School senior gave Army defensive line coach Sean Cronin his commitment after a meeting Monday (January 15).

“I made my decision to commit to Army because of the strong academics while being able to play football at the highest level,” Supreme said.

Army is recruiting the 6-foot-6, 195-pound Supreme as a defensive end. Supreme played defensive end for Gilman his sophomore and junior seasons before moving to outside linebacker senior year. He also took snaps at wide receiver in the three seasons.

“I really enjoy playing defense,” Supreme said. “I’m looking forward to growing and learning Army’s defense to add to my defensive game.”

Supreme originally connected with Army wide receivers coach and Maryland recruiter Aaron Smith on Dec. 13. He hasn’t visited West Point yet. Supreme has military service in his family. His grandmother served in the Army. Supreme also has a cousin serving in the Army.

“I look forward to growing as a player and person during my time at Army,” Supreme said. “I look forward to meeting my new team mates and excited about the journey.”
