Recruiting: Florida DB Daylan Moore connects, commits to Army

Daylan Moore felt welcomed from the start of his Army football visit.

Moore met and shook the hand of every coach on staff and recruiting coach Daryl Dixon walked the Calvary Christian (Fla.) defensive back through a day in the life of an Army football player and West Point cadet.

More than two months passed, the bonds with Dixon and head coach Jeff Monken grew. And, Moore discovered a connection with Army tight end and Calvary Christian graduate David Crossan.

“He (Crossan) told me all that Army has to offer and how the brotherhood is the best part of Army,” Moore said.

Moore was ready to make his college decision Sunday (July 9). He called Dixon and became another Florida recruit to join Army’s 2024 class.

“The call for me was exciting,” Moore said. “I knew what Army had to offer with and without football and I knew they were going to set me up for a bright future. So, the feeling was nothing short of thrilling.”

Moore said the most eye-opening thing about his visit was finding out that “the students there are just like regular students.”

“The stereotypes of the cadets behaving like robots is a myth and it truly made me comfortable seeing people behave as comfortable as they did.”

Moore, who has run track and played basketball and baseball, has a deep history of athletes in his family. Moore’s father played football for Truman State and his mother had the opportunity to play college basketball. Moore made 94 tackles, intercepted four passes, forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and blocked two kicks as a junior.

The opportunity of serving the country also interests Moore.

“I’m honestly excited about serving,” Moore said. “The Army has incredible benefits that I can’t find at any other place.”
