Army football kicked off its preseason with its freshmen taking the field at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The early session was a chance for new offensive coordinator Drew Thatcher to get his first live look at how the direct freshman and last season’s Army Prep players may fit in Army’s new shotgun scheme.

Coach Jeff Monken said defensive players coming from the prep school should be ahead of the offense because running coordinator Nate Woody’s scheme last fall.

The freshmen class merged with the Black Knights’ returning players at 10 a.m. for about a half hour.

Black Knight Nation photographer Lynn Fern captured the action in this gallery featuring Drew Allen, Champ Harris. Larry Robinson, Hayden Oviatt, Tobi Olawole, Jaxon Hammond, Tay Andrews, C.J.
