Defense breakdown: Troy

Max DiDomenico’s fundamentals may not have been textbook. But, Army’s safety produced results on play that could have easily gone for a touchdown against Troy Saturday.

DiDomenico chased Troy’s Jabre Barber and dislodged the ball. Linebacker Leo Lowin recovered the fumble at Army’s 2 in the first quarter. The recovery was the Black Knights’ lone takeaway in a 19-0 defeat.

“I probably could have played it better. technique-wise and fundamentally,” DiDomenico said. “The ball was wet. People were fumbling left and right so I just went in for the tackle, popping the ball out.

“I was hoping Leo would pick it up and take it back but I don’t blame him the ball was super slippery just one of those hustle plays. Leo and I were both chasing the guy and running to the ball.”

DiDomenico is becoming a playmaker in Army’s secondary. He forced his first fumble of the season and the second of his career. DiDomenico also has an interception this season.

Twenty-eight players saw action on defense for Army. A good number considering the game wasn’t a complete runaway.

Freshman edge/outside linebacker Elo Modozie entered the game on Army’s second series.

Seniors Jimmy Ciarlo and Quindrelin Hammonds were the only defensive players to take more than 50 snaps
