Defense breakdown: Boston College

Army’s secondary received a boost against Boston College with the return of cornerback Donavon Platt.

Platt made his season debut, entered the game on the defense’s second series. The sophomore played 13 snaps on defense and special teams in the Black Knights’ 27-24 setback. Platt missed Army’s first four games due to “personal issues,” he said.

“I finally got through it and now I’m able to play and contribute to the team,” Platt said.

Platt brings experience and depth to Army’s cornerbacks, which were rotating veterans Jabari Moore, Cameron Jones and Bo Nicolas-Paul in the first four games. He was the only freshman to start on defense last season, making four appearances with the first team.

“It was rough, seeing my teammates go out there and knowing that I couldn’t really have a helping hand in helping them win or contribute,” Platt said. “It was tough but it really showed me humility and knowing that I had a lot to learn and learning from the older guys just knowing it was going to pay off in the end.”

Senior safety Quindrelin Hammonds played all 70 snaps and recorded his first career interception.

Army held Boston College to 51 passing yards. The wet weather was a factor in the Eagles throwing only nine times. The Black Knights moved into No. 10 in the country in passing yards allowed (164.2 yards per game).
