Coaching staff update: Blake Powers departs to alma mater

Army fullbacks coach Blake Powers is heading back home.

Powers was officially named the head football coach at Meade County (Ky.) High School, his alma mater, Monday. He played quarterback at Meade County before a successful playing career at Indiana University.

A former major in the U.S. Army, Powers spent seven years at West Point, including the last three seasons on the coaching staff.

Powers thanked Army football for “the honor of a lifetime” in a social media post.

“It’s hard to put into words what this place has meant to my family and I,” Powers said. “I was privileged to work under the best coaching staff and best offensive coaches in the country – bar none. Our players are without question the finest young men our nation has to offer, and it was truly a blessing to serve them.
The Brotherhood of the Black Flag is and forever will be unparalleled.

“While my family and I are excited to accept a new coaching position within the community that raised me, The Brotherhood and the Army Football coaching families will always hold a special place in our hearts. Forever.”

Powers, who served 12 years in the Army and two tours of combat duty in Afghanistan following his career at Indiana, was emerging as one of Army’s top recruiters with Indiana and Kentucky as his prime recruiting area. A versatile offensive coach, Powers led Army fullbacks (2024), running backs (2022) and tight ends (2023).
