Recruiting: Florida OL Tucker Wilson finds his ‘home’ in Army

Tucker Wilson entered his Army football visit with some knowledge of the team’s offensive line.

Wilson left West Point feeling like a member of the line’s M.O.B. and the program’s future brotherhood.

Talks with current players Ben Britton, Ben Konopka, Greg Meidl, Wes Shaw and Nehemiah Vann highlighted the Deland, Fla. lineman’s visit. Wilson committed to Army before leaving the academy this weekend.

”(Army) showed they wanted me,” Wilson said. “Both offensive line coaches (Cheston Blackshear, John Holt and head coach (Jeff Monken) called me every other day building a good relationship. My visit yesterday which really made my decision by how the coaches and players made it feel like home.”

Wilson chose Army over offers from Navy, Colgate and other FCS programs. He cancelled an official visit to Colgate.

Entering his third season as an offensive line starter for Delano, Wilson started playing football when he was 6 years old. His positions included defensive line, quarterback and running back at a younger age.

Wilson switched from defensive to offensive line the spring of his freshman year and has never looked back. Army is recruiting the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Wilson to play either center or guard. He’s played guard and tackle at Deland.

There’s a sense of pride with Wilson’s commitment. His grandfather, Mark Montague, was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War.

”He’s someone I’ve looked up to,” Wilson said.
