Andon Thomas emerged as one of Army’s top defensive players in his first season as a starter.

Maybe, more impressive was the junior linebacker’s continued academic excellence at one of the nation’s most prestigious school.

Thomas, a chemical engineering major with 3.98 grade-point average, received one of the ultimate achievements for a student-athlete Tuesday. College Sports Communicators named Thomas a first-team academic all-American.

Army’s leading tackler (98) in 2024, Thomas plans to continue his chemical engineering studies after West Point graduation. He’d like to pursue graduate studies in the field and come back to West Point as a teacher/instructor in the department of chemistry and life science in the future, per Army’s athletics website.

Thomas is a candidate to be one of Army’s football captains for the 2025 season. The team votes on captains during spring practice.
