Recruiting: Texas LB Isaac Shumate picks Army

Isaac Shumate says he felt goosebumps as he stepped onto West Point’s hallowed grounds for the second time for Army’s spring game.

The feeling was strong enough for Shumate to know where his future home would be. Add in the recruiting atmosphere surrounding the Black and Gold game as the Splendora (Texas) linebacker was ready to make his commitment to the Black Knights on the spot.

”It felt right,” Shumate said. “I knew how big the opportunity was for me and I felt like the only choice was to take advantage of it.”

Army offensive line coach Cheston Blackshear offered Shumate two months ago. Shumate visited Army for the first time on one of its Junior Days March 8 and was blown away.

”I was extremely impressed with the culture they have installed into the program and the extraordinary facilities,” Shumate said.

Shumate said he’s “100 percent committed” to Army. He also received offers from Air Force and UTEP. The 6-foot-1, 229-pound Shumate runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, per his X profile.
