Army football great Bob Novogratz passes away

Bob Novogratz’s play stood out among one of Army’s most talented teams in its storied football history.

Novogratz, an all-American guard, may not have gotten the press of Heisman Trophy back Pete Dawkins or running back Bob Anderson. But, some think there was nobody better at his position than Novogratz on Army’s 1958 undefeated team.

Army lost a legendary player and person over the week as Novogratz passed away Friday due to a heart condition.

Novogratz will recently elected to the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame earlier this year. The induction ceremony will be held in December.

A two-way football player and two-sports athlete at West Point, Novogratz also excelled at linebacker on the gridiron and wrestling. He received two 1958 lineman of the year awards.

A decorated officer, Novogratz served two tours of duty in Vietnam and one in Korea in his 28 years in the Army.
