Recruiting: Pa. DE TJ Sinkus picks Army

TJ Sinkus’ Army football offer came unexpected at the end of his Junior Day visit.

Sinkus would visit Army three times including the Black and Gold spring game. With each visit, Sinkus loved the program more and more.

The growing appreciate was enough for Sinkus, a Downingtown (Pa.) West defensive lineman to commit to the Black Knights Wednesday.

”I knew I wasn’t going to be the best guy they recruited but that school alone sets me up for the future,” Sinkus said. “I am willing to work hard for my spot on the team.

”I’m excited. I know this is going to be a new chapter in my life.”

Army’s 12-2, American Athletic Conference championship season caught Sinkus’ attention and factored into his decision.

“They (Army) did very well last season and almost motivated me more to go there,” Sinkus said.

Sinkus is following the path of Downingtown teammate and 2025 Army defensive back commit Darian Smith. He enters Army’s radar during Smith’s recruitment. Army’s interest o. Sinkus began with a text and Junior Day invite from linebackers coach and area recruiter John Loose.

The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Sinkus comes off the edge and also played in coverage for Downingtown West’s defense. Army is looking for Sinkus to play on the defensive line, he said. Sinkus recovered four fumbles, forced three fumbles, recorded three sacks and averaged 45 yards per punt his junior season.

“They (Army) play three down (lineman) most of the time and that’s our same scheme in high school,” Sinkus said. “I bet I will be able to pick it up fast.”
