Army athletic director Mike Buddie was officially named TCU’s director of intercollegiate athletics this afternoon.
Buddie has led Army’s athletic department since 2019, guiding the academy football program to playing in the American Athletic Conference this season.
“For the past six years, our family has been embraced and immersed in life at USMA (United States Military Academy),” Buddle said in a statement posted on X. “Working for the West Point cadet-athletes has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life. I am proud of the successes they have achieved, but more impressively how they achieved them.”
Buddie was hired to replace Boo Corrigan in the spring of 2019. He oversaw 12 (Patriot, American Athletic Conference) champions, 12 Patriot League coach of the years and one AAC coach of the year (Jeff Monken). Buddie spearheaded the Michie Stadium renovation of the historic venue’s East stands, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026.
“The Long Grey Line stepped up to finish the Michie Stadium project and I anxiously await the final product, which will greatly elevate the fan experience at Michie Stadium,” Buddie said. “My teammates, the Superintendent and the entire West Point community continue to support the critical mission of the USMA on a daily basis and I take so many great leadership lessons with me as the next chapter begins in Fort Worth.”
Buddie will start his TCU position immediately. Abby Howard was named Army’s interim athletic director. Howard joined Army’s staff as a senior associate athletic director and corporate counsel in October 2022 and was promoted to deputy athletics director/chief administrative officer and general counsel in March this year.
“Mike Buddie has been an extraordinary teammate, truly committed to the ideals of Duty, Honor, Country.” West Point superintendent Steven W. Gilland said in a statement. “He has made a lasting impact on Army athletics, including the Michie Stadium Preservation project, Army football’s move to the American Athletic Conference and numerous conference championships and postseason appearances.
“Yet, his true legacy over the past five and a half years is the thousands of cadet-athletes, who developed into leaders of character for our nation.”
