Coaching staff update: Danny Verpaele returning to South Florida

Army safeties coach Danny Verpaele is headed back home.

Verpaele was announced as South Florida’s new safeties coach Friday after three seasons at West Point in his second stint on staff.

A freshman all-American safety at South Florida in the mid-2000s, Verpaele was a three-year letterman for the Bulls. He returns to the American Conference school as one of first-year coach Brian Hartline’s latest hires.

Army and South Florida are scheduled to play at West Point in 2026. A date will be released in February.

Verpaele mentored Max DiDomenico to American Conference first-team honors in 2024. Army safeties picked off 16 passes in Verpaele’s three seasons coaching the position at West Point. Verpaele will not coach in the Fenway Bowl.

Mike Beaudry, a defensive analyst, will coach Army’s safeties Saturday. Beaudry is a former starting quarterback for UConn in 2019.
