And, then there was just one.
Navy, which was off last weekend, is the only remaining undefeated American Conference team after Memphis was shocked by UAB last weekend. The Midshipmen, who faced Florida Atlantic this coming weekend, are 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
UAB sophomore Iverson Hooks was named the American’s offensive player of the week. He had career highs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown receptions to lead UAB to a 31-24 win against No. 22 Memphis, snapping the Tigers’ 10-game winning streak. He finished with 11 receptions for 172 yards and three touchdowns, finding the end zone from 15, 16 and 20 yards.
Hooks’ 16-yard TD catch came with two seconds left in the first half, enabled the Blazers to take a 17-14 lead into halftime, while his 20-yard scoring reception came with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter, giving UAB a 31-17 advantage.
 
South Florida linebacker Mac Harris was named the conference’s defensive player of the week. He led a South Florida defense that limited Florida Atlantic to 23 rushing yards and 6-of-21 efficiency on third down in the Bulls’ 48-13 victory. Harris finished with a team-high 10 tackles, a sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry as the Bulls held the Owls to only one touchdown.
East Carolina senior kicker Nick Mazzie was named the American’s special team’s player of the week. He scored 11 points as he connected on a pair of field goals and was 5-for-5 on PATs to help East Carolina to a 41-27 win against Tulsa.
 
Army junior quarterback Cale Hellums, who rushed for a career-high 155 yards with two touchdowns on 39 carries and 125 passing yards in a 24-17 loss at Tulane was named an honorable mention offensive player of the week in the conference.
Here is a look at how Army’s 2025 opponents fared last week:
Tarleton State (8-0) – Make that eight in a row for the third-ranked (FCS) Texans. Victor Gabalis threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns to lead Tarleton State to an easy 45-10 victory over West Georgia. James Paige rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown for the Texans. Kansas State (3-4) – The Wildcats did not play last weekend. Up Next: At Kansas.
North Texas (6-1, 2-1 in the American) – Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns in the Mean Green’s 55-17 victory over UTSA. Wyatt Young caught six passes for a career-high 102 yards and had three touchdown catches for North Texas. Up Next: At Charlotte (Friday night).
East Carolina (4-3, 2-1 in the American) – Katin Houser completed 21 of 38 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns to help the Pirates knock off Tulsa, 41-27 on Thursday night. Anthony Smith had four catches for a career-high 150 yards and two touchdowns. Up Next: Bye.
UAB (3-4, 1-3 in the American) – Just days after coach Trent Dilfer was fired, the Dragons pulled off a major upset, beating previously-undefeated Memphis, 31-24. Iverson Hooks caught 11 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns for UAB. The Dragons quarterback Ryder Burton threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Up Next: Bye.
Charlotte (1-6, 0-4 in the American) – The 49ers were held in check by visiting Temple, losing to the Owls 49-14. Charlotte quarterback Grayson Loftis was held to just 108 yards passing on 10 of 22 throwing. Backup Zach Wilcke had five completions for 50 yards. Up Next: North Texas (Friday night).
Tulane (6-1, 3-0 in the American) – Two touchdowns in just 1:27 late in the fourth quarter helped the Green Wave knock off Army, 24-17, and stay unbeaten in conference play. Tulane quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw for 261 yards on 22-for-29 passing. He had two touchdown passes and ran for a 27-yard score.  Up Next: Bye.
Air Force (2-5) – Two weeks before their annual showdown with Army, the Falcons managed to hold off visiting Wyoming, 24-21. Air Force quarterback Liam Szarka threw for just 33 yards on three-for-eight passing attempts. But he ran for 141 yards and a touchdown on 26 rushing carries. Up Next: bye.
Temple (4-3, 2-1 in the American) – Evan Simon continues to make a name for himself in the American. This week he threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns as the Owls defeated host Charlotte, 49-14. Temple has committed just one turnover in its seven games this season.. Up Next: At Tulsa.
Tulsa (2-5, 0-4 in the American) – The Golden Hurricane tried to stay close with East Carolina but failed in the second half, losing to the Pirates , 41-27. Brody Foley had six receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown for Tulsa. Up Next: at Temple.
UTSA (3-4, 1-2 in the American) – Despite 138 rushing yards on just 12 carries by Robert Henry, Jr., the Roadrunners fell to North Texas 55-17. Owen McCown completed 11 of 20 passes for just 84 yards and a touchdown for UTSA. Up Next: Bye.
