Army and women’s basketball coach Missy Traversi have “mutually” agreed to part ways, the academy’s athletic department released Monday night.

The news of Traversi’s departure is somewhat surprising with the timing and Army coming off a 25-8 season and one of its most successful years in almost a decade. The Black Knights, which advanced to the Patriot League championship game and defeated Bryant in the WNIT first round, were 66-55 in Traversi’s four seasons.

Traversi posted a statement on social media Monday night.

”It’s a bittersweet day as I have poured an enormous amount of effort and energy into building the West Point program since I arrived in 2021,” Traversi wrote. “Now, my immediate focus shifts to my family where I will channel that same energy.

”I’m deeply proud of what we achieved during my time including a 9-2 record against Air Force and Navy with seven consecutive over Navy. Our historic 2024-25 season marked by the second-most, single-season wins and the program’s first postseason victory, stands as a culmination of the dedication our cadet-athletes and staff. Lastly, thank you to the people that made my journey at West Point unforgettable. You will always have a piece of my heart.”

Army graduated only one senior – Trinity Hardy, its leading scorer – and is expected to return starters Reese Ericson, Fiona Hastick, Kya Smith and Cam Tade.

Assistant Glenn Rigney was named interim head coach as new athletic director Tom Theodoraskis begins a national search for his first major hire.
