Ry Reed received some sound advice from Army’s offensive coaching staff for this season.
Watch Army slotback Noah Short. That’s the potential role that the Black Knights are recruiting Reed, a Gordon (Texas) senior to play. Short is Army’s returning leader in rushing and receiving yards.
Reed, who committed to Army during Knight on the Hudson on June 15, possesses game-breaking skills. He defended his state 100-meter dash title with a time of 10.47 seconds and ran on the state-winning 800 and 1,600 relay teams this spring. Reed helped Gordon to its second Six-Man Texas football title last fall.
“Coach (Mike) Viti visited with me about the potential to earn a spot on special teams,” Reed said. “Coach (Dane) Romero talked to me about his approach to my position. Overall, they just gave me what their expectations were and what the possibilities could be for me.”
Reed’s commitment came down to Army and Air Force. Army’s vision for 5-foot-10, 170-pound Reed gave it an edge over the Falcons.
“The plan that Army had for me really put them on top,” said Reed, who also received offers from in-state and Army AAC conference opponents UTSA and North Texas.
Reed also said Army’s recruiting process made the difference. Viti, Army’s offensive line coach and Texas recruiter, started by visiting Reed at Gordon and visiting with his family.
“For the last few months, the Army coaches did a really good job developing relationships with my family and me,” Reed said. “Along with the amazing facilities, they ultimately displayed their plan for me. When it came down to the decision, I made a lot of it through those relationships and the detailed plan they had for me.”

This one sounds terrific! I hope he understands and appreciates what West Point is really all about. May he stay safe and healthy and successful until then.
