Recruiting: Kentucky RB Luke Ballard picks Army

Luke Ballard is pretty good at running the football.

Ballard finished his career at Great Crossing (Ky.) as the school’s all-time leading rusher. The senior running back was looking for a college where he could showcase his skills.

And, Ballard found that in Army this weekend. Ballard committed to the Black Knights during a recruiting visit.

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to come here until this visit and I knew for sure that this is where home is for me,” Ballard said.

Army’s coaching staff, atmosphere and brotherhood impressed Ballard during his visit. Running backs coach Chandler Burks originally offered Ballard in October. He also held an offer from FCS Eastern Kentucky.

Ballard rushed for 3,359 yards and 44 touchdowns in his Great Crossing career. He ran for 1,302 yards and 14 touchdowns his senior year and was an honorable-mention, all-state selection. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound back played in a spread offense at Great Crossing.

“(Army) is not very similar to my high school offense,” Ballard said. “But I am extremely excited to run in the run-first offense.”
