Selfless may be the best way to describe Army football 2025 commit Elzie Slaughter.

Slaughter played running back from middle school through his junior year. St. Thomas Aquinas (Kansas) needed someone to run its flexbone offense Slaughter’s senior year. Slaughter stepped up and help lead undefeated Saint Thomas Aquinas to a state 5A championship.

“I played quarterback because we really didn’t have anyone (his senior year),” Slaughter said. “Playing quarterback definitely helped me understand each position better and know what all positions are doing. It just helped me read the field more in general.”

Slaughter will be returning to running back for Army. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Slaughter is being recruited to play fullback. He rushed for 1,109 yards and 14 touchdowns for 13-0 St. Thomas Aquinas in 2024.

Army offered Slaughter last summer. Slaughter had opportunities to walk on at Kansas or Kansas State, he said, along with Division II offers from Emporia State, Pittsburg State and Fort Hays. He announced Wednesday that he signed his certificate of commitment to Army. Slaughter committed to the Black Knights and slotbacks coach Dane Romero on Nov. 26, 2024.

“He (Romero) answered all of my questions and my mom and I decided it was somewhere I would love to go and we wanted to take this opportunity,” Slaughter said. “

“The opportunities it (West Point) gives you and all of the training and hard work they have you do and the education (are reasons why Slaughter committed).”

Slaughter wants to be an engineer in the future and West Point’s program matched his interest.

“(West Point) has all of the things I love and it seemed like the perfect fit,” said Slaughter, who plans to attend Army Prep in the fall.
