Prediction time: North Texas

Army is 2.5-point home underdog to 3-0 North Texas Saturday at Michie Stadium.

One of the under-the-radar matchups of the week. Army is coming off a bye week following 24-21 road win over Kansas State.

North Texas has outscored opponents 143-40 in its first three games including 59-10 victory over Washington State last week.

Army shut down North Texas in its 2024 meeting, holding the Mean Green to a field goal in a 14-3 road win.

Army junior safety Casey Larkin said the Mean Green have the same offensive weapons this year. The Black Knights’ defense picked off two passes in the end zone in the 2024 victory.

“Just like last year, they are talented team,” Larkin said. “We have to rely on us. It’s all about us.”

Sal Interdonato (Black Knight Nation): Army 24, North Texas 20. Given Army defensive coordinator Nate Woody’s history in game against quick-strike offenses think this will be a lower scoring game than most expect, The Black Knights will need the same energy and effort that they brought in the Kansas State win. And, the execution – ball control, no turnovers, sure tackling, limited penalties needs to be on point.

Seth Mendelson (Black Knight Nation): Army 35, North Texas 28.  It all comes down to whether Army’s offense can control the ball and the clock to keep the high-powered North Texas offense off the field. I think Jeff Monken’s team used the bye week to come up with some interesting twists that lead to a Black Knight win.

Cuthbert Hutton (Sidelines Army): Army 31, North Texas 27. North Texas gets out to an early lead before Army D settles in. Similarly sluggish open 2-3 drives for Army O. By halftime game play will have evened and Army will be trailing close before coming out in the second half and imposing their will. Another big game by Brady Anderson, Noah Short, and the OL.

Colton Pool (Hero Sports): North Texas – 2
