Army football has filled one of its coaching staff openings with a familiar name.

Scot Sloan has returned to West Point to coach Army’s safeties. Army announced Sloan’s hiring Wednesday.

Sloan was Army’s safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator during the 2022 season. He replaces Danny Verpaele, who left Army for his alma mater South Florida after his second stint at West Point. Sloan was Samford’s defensive coordinator and interim head coach in 2025. He was Appalachian State’s defensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024.

“Army West Point has always felt like home to me,” said Sloan in an Army press release. “This place, this program, and the people here mean a great deal to my family and me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to return and continue working alongside Coach Monken and this staff to develop our young men on and off the field. There’s a special standard here, and I’m excited to get back to work helping uphold it.”
