Coaching news update: Daryl Dixon promoted to Army DC

Army football is staying in house for its next defensive coordinator.

Army announced Thursday that longtime cornerbacks coach Daryl Dixon has been promoted to leader of the Black Knights’ defense.

Dixon is entering his 11th season on Army’s coaching staff and was the team’s passing game coordinator since 2023. He coached linebackers at West Point for his first three seasons before moving to cornerbacks. Dixon has mentored Elijah Riley, who has played in the NFL, and recently Jaydan Mayes and Donavon Platt.

An all-SEC defensive back at Florida, Dixon joined Army’s staff from Ball State under coordinator Jay Bateman.

Dixon will focus on defensive coordinator duties. Army will be looking to add a cornerbacks coach.

In other coaching news, recently-hired safeties coach Scot Sloan has also been promoted to co-defensive coordinator, a title that he held his first stint at West Point.
