Coaching news: Jamere Hogue hired to lead Army D-Line

Army has filled one of its two coaching staff opening with an experienced FCS coach.

Jamere Hogue is Army’s new defensive line coach. Hogue coached defensive line at East Tennessee State during the 2025 season. He replaces Allen Smith, who left West Point to become the Philadelphia Eagles assistant outside linebackers coach.

Hogue was McNeese State’s defensive line coach in 2023-24 and the previous three seasons at Gardner-Webb.

Army coach Jeff Monken said he was looking for someone similar to Smith’s fiery personality to lead the Black Knights’ defensive line.

Hogue coached under East Tennessee State defensive coordinator Chad Staggs. Staggs had previously coached with Army safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator Scot Sloan.

“I thought Allen (Smith) did a really good job,” Monken said. “When you got a coach and it’s working well in the room and you lose that coach, I think often times it pays off to get someone with a similar personality.

“The players connect with that coach or that personality. (Hogue) has a very similar personality and coaching style and has coached in the system.”

No “brotherhood” among the coaches, obviously and unfortunately? I feel sorry for Coach Monken.
