Wisconsin Week: Jeff Monken

Wisconsin is a team that Jeff Monken admires and someone that the Army coach could catch himself watching on television.

The Badgers run the football effectively and stop the run – two qualities that Monken believes brings success in college football.

Trying to find ways to solve Wisconsin’s rushing offense and run defense is not as enjoyable.

“They are fun to watch but probably not so much fun to play against,” Monken said during his Monday press conference. “I have a lot more fun watching them on TV than I will having them line up and mashing our guys.”

It’s good vs. good Saturday night at Camp Randall Stadium when Army’s No. 2 rushing offense clashes against Wisconsin’s No. 1 rushing defense. The Badgers have limited four of its five opponents to 50 rushing yards or less including No. 7 Penn State and No. 14 Notre Dame. Wisconsin held Illinois to 93 yards of total offense in a 24-0 win last week.

“They are really, really good on defense,” Monken said. “It doesn’t matter who they play. It doesn’t matter what offense it is or how talented the players are that they are playing against. They have played some really talented football teams already this year. They are really, really good. it’s going to be a tremendous challenge for us to be able to run the ball effectively.”

Army should do a little better than E Michigan did, but it will be a career low in rushing yards for Coach Davis — less than 100. Coach should try their best passer at QB, Cade Ballard. With a few new short pass routes, maybe Army could then loosen up Wisconsin a bit and prove what I said above to be wrong.
