Signing Day: Kason Hooks changes commitment from Air Force to Army

An Army hat was set to Kason Hooks’ left and an Air Force hat to his right as he was about to reveal his college decision.

Hooks opened up his certificate of commitment, signed it and placed the Army hat on his head. The senior confirmed what he had told Army coaches prior to ceremony.

The Lee County (Ga.) safety was the second recruit to flip his commitment from Air Force to Army in the last few weeks. West Catholic running back and Michigan player of the year Timmy Kloska changed his commitment to Army.

Hooks said he was “100 percent going to the Air Force academy,” before his visit to West Point in early January. What changed Hooks’ mind on his future college football home?

“Mainly, the relationship I was able to form with coach (Jeff) Monken and defensive coordinator (Nate) Woody,” Hooks said. “Also, just how strongly-bonded the players were to each other.

“When it came down to the wire, there wasn’t many differences but those were the most defining reasons that gave West Point the upper hand.”

Army is recruiting Hooks to play strong safety, a position that Hooks thinks matches his abilities.

“I have strong beliefs that my play style and my great ability to cover in space and make open-field tackles will allow me to show my skills on the biggest stage.”
