Recruiting: Texas LB Nicholas Blevins chooses Army over Navy offer

Nick Blevins’ football recruiting was down to offers from Army and Navy.

As time passed during the summer, Blevins kept thinking back to his West Point visit during Army’s Knight on the Hudson in June. The Liberty Christian (Texas) senior remembered coach Jeff Monken talking to him and every other recruit that night. He recalled hearing about current Army players’ football and cadet experiences. And, Blevins couldn’t forget the tour of the team facilities and campus.

All of it would add up to Blevins making calling Army inside linebackers coach Juice Weaver, his recruiting coach, with his commitment last week.

“I just felt like West Point felt like a better place (than Navy) for both football and academics,” Blevins said of his decision. “When I visited, all the coaches and players were nice and made me feel at home.”

Army is recruiting the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Blevins as an outside linebacker. Blevins received an offer from Weaver and Army during a visit to Liberty Christian in April. Weaver briefed Blevins on Army football and the academy, leaving the linebacker wanting to know more about the potential of the offer.

“Over time, I realized how much it would help me in life, especially after football,” Blevins said. “I knew it would be the best option for me.”

Blevins, who is the 12th Texas recruit in Army’s 2025 class, had a 60-yard pick six in the Texas state regionals and a 31-yard interception TD in the regular season as a junior.
