Recruiting: Needham (Mass.) DL Will McDonald joins Army 2025 class

Will McDonald was locked in every second of his first Army football experience. The Black Knights’ prospect camp was McDonald’s opportunity to impress the coaching staff earlier this month.

And, the Needham (Mass.) senior did more than impress. McDonald earned the camp’s Class of 2025 defensive line MVP, followed by a campus tour that ended in head coach Jeff Monken’s office with an offer.

McDonald described the moment of the offer as “perfect” and one he will never forget. Army was the first program to take a chance on McDonald and will be his new home. McDonald completed his recruitment by committing to Army assistant coach John Loose Monday.

“The minute I received my offer I knew that I wanted to go (there),” McDonald said. “On top of being an amazing school, the coaches were great and the facilities were top notch. I couldn’t pass up that opportunity.”

McDonald, who is 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, idolizes Lions defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson and his style of play. He is embracing the chance to receive next-level coaching.

“I think my pass rush and length could bring value to (Army’s) defensive line yet I am looking forward to being developed physically and mentally by the staff at West Point,” McDonald said. “I look up to Aidan Hutchinson. I think we share some traits and he’s an animal on the field. I’m hoping to play at a level like him some day.”
