Recruiting: Army edge commit Daniel Adefolarin has major upside

Listening to Daniel Adefolarin describe his passing rushing skills should have Army fans excited for the future.

Adefolarin says speed and physicality is what separates him from other edge rusher prospects. The Neumann Goretti (Philadelphia) senior adds he has “that hunt mentality to sack quarterbacks in crucial moments.” Adefolarin had his first high school touchdown on a 37-yard scoop and score last season.

Army coaches believes the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Adefolarin could be the perfect fit in Nate Woody’s scheme that has seen current Vikings defensive end Andre Carter excel on the edge. And, one of Army’s latest commits could be just scratching the surface in terms of his talent.

Adefolarin will play just his third season of football this fall. Basketball was his first love. He played competitively through middle school and his freshman year before switching to football.

“I felt like I could strive more in football rather than basketball because of my size and the position I played in basketball,” said Adefolarin, who mainly a center and played some power forward.

College football programs took notice of Adefolarin’s skills and potential. He received offers from Navy, Temple, James Madison, UNLV and Akron.

Multiple West Point visits helped Adefolarin make his commitment to Army and recruiting coach John Loose on June 30. Adefolarin announced his decision July 4th.

“The culture they have up there is special, the brotherhood,” Adefolarin said. “It’s really important going into games knowing your teammate by your side would be your brother. It gives you an edge playing at your personal best.

“The environment at West Point is like no other. You will be placed in a high personal environment, which will motivate you to being the best version of yourself at all times because you never know who can walk past you or is watching you.”

The best football version of Adefolarin is still to come. And, Adefolarin has decided to take that jump to the next level with Army.
