Quick thoughts: Army-Tennessee cancellation

Word broke yesterday that Army’s 2022 road game at Tennessee is off when the Volunteers released their schedule for next season.

Army loses a reportedly guaranteed $1.4 million matchup against a Power Five team from the top conference in college football as Tennessee exercised its right to buy out of the game for a $500,000.

Tennessee doesn’t have the buzz level of recent Power Five road opponents Ohio State, Oklahoma and Michigan but a trip to Knoxville would have some significance as pointed out by the As For Football crew and would have been Army’s first since 1986.

We’ll leave at it that.

Reports out of Tennessee say the reason for getting out of game. Probably has nothing to do with Tennessee’s next three opponents after Sept. 17 – Florida, LSU and Alabama. Instead, Tennessee will play Akron on that date.

Regardless, the timing put Army in a difficult spot for finding a game in a world where schedules are set 10 years in advance. For Army fans, this could result in an additional home game at Michie Stadium next season.

Look on the bright side, Army opens its 2022 season at Coastal Carolina. The first of four matchups with one of college football’s more rising programs.

Okay for precisely what reason did TN do this? Did they want a sure thing that week ? Sad day for TN Football Program as Nyland rolls over hearing the news.

I bet LSU won’t chicken out of the game the following year. Sort of dissapointing that our run of high level P% games is coming to a close. OU, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, UT (Chickens), LSU. Hope we can find a way to start this up again.
