Army coach Jeff Monken, safety and captain Marquel Broughton, quarterback Tyhier Tyler and linebacker Andre Carter speak with media after the Black Knights’ 20-14 loss at Wisconsin.

“I think our guys showed that they will go toe to toe with anybody and they are not intimidated by anybody, I can assure you that,” Monken said. “The United States Army is not intimidated by anyone either. That’s a bunch of future soldiers and they are going to lead future soldiers. They won’t back down from anybody on the battlefield either. You can sure of that.”

“Coming after a loss, it’s never something that you are happy about,” Broughton said. “I’m happy that our team kept fighting. That shows that we can persevere and continue to love one another, trust one another and push each other to keep fighting until the end. I respect our team for that.”

“We have to made plays and we have to execute,” Tyler said. “Looking around the locker room, there’s no doubt that every single guy in that room gave their all and gave their 100 percent effort. The toughness and the effort is there. We just have to execute assignments more.”

“That was were right where we wanted to be with a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter),” Carter said. “Playing against a team like this and the environment that they have, that’s really all you can ask for is a chance to winit at the end and we weren’t able to get that done.”

The refs screwed up, and that simply handed Wisconsin the decisive touchdown. The rule is, and has always been, that if the QB’s arm is going forward with the ball in his hand, no matter how little going forward, it’s not a fumble but definitely an attempt at a forward pass. His arm was definitely and beyond any doubt, going forward … case closed, full stop, no question. The only thing I can think of that the refs questioned is whether the QB’s arm was going forward because he was trying to tuck the ball back in and take a loss. But, #1, it’s not their job to read the QB’s mind on what he was thinking, and #2, if he was trying to tuck it in and take a loss, he would certainly move his left hand toward the ball to try to grab it with 2 hands. His left hand did not do that. All the refs should have been interested in is whether his hand with the ball was moving forward, according to rule. It certainly was. They certainly screwed Army.

The refs also failed to call a lot of holding by Wisconsin, which they apparently chose to ignore, especially what looked to me like their holding Andre Carter on that clear prance around their left (our right) side for a touchdown.
