Defense breakdown: Wake Forest

Army defensive coordinator Nate Woody says he holds his breath when captain Marquel Broughton is knicked up during games.

Broughton is the leader, playmaker and quarterback of Army’s defense. The senior looked to have injured his shoulder on a hit in the second quarter against Wake Forest. Broughton returned to record 10 tackles, his 6th career 10-plus tackle game, in his 30th career start.

“When he’s hurting a little bit, I always catch my breath but somehow, someway, he always bounces back,” Woody said. “There’s a toughness about him that you just don’t beat. You just stand back and you respect it. I think it spreads to the rest of our defense and our team.

“I love that guy and what he stands for and everything he does for the program and I’ll do anything in the world for him because he’s a very giving person and player.”

Junior linebacker Leo Lowin had his third 10-plus tackle game of the season, making 11 stops. Lowin is 21st in the nation in tackles per game (9.8).

Wake Forest scored four of its six touchdowns in 2 minutes and 40 seconds or less, 3 in less than 1:38.

Third-down defense: Wake Forest was 4-for-9 on third down
