Black Knight Nation Podcast: 1995 Army Football Reunion

Joe Triano’s recruiting story sounds similar to current and future Army football players.

Triano looked on Army’s 1995 schedule and saw Notre Dame.

“I had grown up hating Notre Dame and that’s one of the reasons that I went to West Point is to play against Notre Dame,” said Triano, a senior fullback on Army’s 1995 team.

Triano’s friends, who were Fighting Irish fans, hit him up for tickets and were wearing Notre Dame colors at the old Giants Stadium on Oct. 14, 1995. Triano and Army nearly sent his friends home disappointed.

Army fell inches short on a two-point conversion from knocking off No. 17 Notre Dame.

Triano was among the players from the 1995 Army team that were reunited Tuesday night to discuss their football memories of that season, which laid down the groundwork for a 10-2 record the next year.

Former Army beat writer Kevin Gleason and current Army assistant coach John Loose joined the chat.

Enjoy.

Yes I took my Dad, a WWII Army officer to the 1995 game at the Meadowlands, we sat halfway up the upper deck corner of the end zone where the two point conversion was attempted. What a moment, everyone was on their feet, it almost happened, but the $7 million dollar tackle saved the day for ND, it was called that, because it was the bowl fee ND expected, they would not have gone to a bowl wo beating Army that day.
